Borrow, plant, and return seeds to our Evesham Libary to support community gardening and local biodiversity efforts.

Why sow seeds in November?

• Most New Jersey native seeds need a period of cold stratification to germinate effectively. Sowing them in November mimics nature's process perfectly!

• Many of these small seeds are easily carried by the wind and require little or no dirt covering to sprout spring.

• Try Winter Sowing in January!

  We're saving Hyssop, Coneflowers, Coreopsis, and Yarrow for our first Winter Sowing Workshop at the Evesham Library.

Seed Sharing Locally

Stop by the Evesham Library reference desk to pick up your free native flower seeds! We're offering more than 20 varieties, made possible by collections with Chartwell Gardens and the SW Chapter of the Native Plant Society of NJ. Since space is limited, our selection rotates regularly—check back often! Feel free to reach out and let us know your seed requests.

Give Back to the Birds: If you have established native flowers, please leave the seed heads standing this winter—it's a critical food source for our local wintering birds!

• Home for Insects: The hollow stems and old foliage provide vital shelter and overwintering habitat for beneficial native insects and pollinators.

• Natural Protection: The stalks also act as natural mulch to protect the plant crowns from winter damage.
